What does Glimmer Train mean by "unpublished"?

When we buy first print publication rights to a story (the only kind we buy), you are granting us the right to be the first publication to present your story in print. Previous online publication isn't a problem to us. If you have self-published (through Kindle or other avenues), as long as you've sold fewer than 50 copies, that's fine. If a story has won a prize—but will not be presented in print—that's fine, too.

Our goal is to provide readers with moving literary fiction, and provide lasting print publication for great stories that the public might not otherwise have the opportunity to read.

We look forward to reading your work!

Glimmer Train has been discovering, publishing, and paying emerging writers since 1990.

One of the most respected short-story journals in print, Glimmer Train is represented in recent editions of the Pushcart Prize,
New Stories from the Midwest, O.Henry, New Stories from the South, Best of the West, and Best American Short Stories anthologies.

Every story published in Glimmer Train is unsolicited.
And every year, we pay out over $50,000 to fiction writers.
